Associate General Manager

  • Promoted to associate general manager on June 6, 2014
  • Assists GM Jim Rutherford on all hockey-related matters, including scouting, player development and contract negotiations
  • Spent the previous 5 years as the Penguins assistant GM from 2009-14 and the 2 years prior to that as the team’s director of hockey administration beginning in 2007-08
  • Key architect of the Penguins’ 2009 Stanley Cup championship run
  • His avant-garde approach and understanding of the salary cap has been a major asset for the Penguins
  • Serves as GM of the Penguins’ top minor-league affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL)
  • The WBS Penguins have made the playoffs all 5 years he has overseen the team, including back-to-back berths in the Eastern Conference Final (2013 and ‘14)
  • Before joining the Penguins, Botterill worked for NHL Central Registry and as a scout for the Dallas Stars
  • Owns a MBA from his alma mater, the University of Michigan

  • Played in 88 NHL games for Dallas, Atlanta, Calgary and Buffalo before his career was cut short due to injury
  • Drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 1st round (20th overall) in 1994
  • Suited up for 393 career minor-league games, tallying 257 career points
  • Played 4 years of college hockey at the University of Michigan
  • Won a NCAA national title with the Wolverines in 1996
  • Represented Canada in 3 straight World Junior Championships from 1994-96, winning gold medals all 3 years
